An Audit 530T CNC unit will be fitted to the body of the centre lathe which will interface with every area of the machine. The lathe’s chuck, steady, and tailstock will be replaced with pneumatic components, and an 8-station turret and Osai Open XS control system will be installed. These changes and additions to the lathe will give it improved abilities and the capacity to accommodate cylinders up to 4.5m in length between centres.
A.H. Garner’s MD, Marek Lewandowski, commented on the retrofit:
“We’ve wanted to bring in a large CNC machine for a long time, and seeing as we’ve just brought in a couple of smaller machines, we saw this as a perfect opportunity to grow our large turning capacity as well. Audit CNC are rebuilding the machine into an entirely different animal.”
The retrofit is scheduled for completion in early 2015.
